total body conditioning

I defined athleticism by the sports I loathed playing in middle and high school. It wasn’t until I moved to Portland, Oregon with a degree in English and no job prospects that I unwittingly began to redefine athleticism. My first foray into gym culture was guided by Charles, a personal trainer who was training for a Strong Man competition. He coached me through my fear of the weight room and showed me the connection between mental and physical strength. I built muscles I never knew I had. As a Hames class instructor, I strive to share the lessons I learned with as many folks as possible. I coach for strength of mind and of body, wherever you are. I no longer define athleticism as it relates to others, I define it as it relates to me. Strong hearts. Strong bodies.
